Helping others through your voice journey

At The Speech Network, we know that many people considering transgender voice therapy worry about whether they can achieve a voice that feels authentic and comfortable.

Some clients choose to share a short example of their voice journey to help others understand what may be possible through voice training.

What will be shared?

If you choose to take part, The Speech Network will use:

  • one sentence selected from your reading of the Rainbow Passage before therapy, and

  • the same sentence selected from your reading of the Rainbow Passage after therapy.

The selected excerpts will be presented together to demonstrate the changes achieved through voice therapy.

No other parts of your recording will be used.

How will my recording be used?

Your voice recording may be published on:

  • The Speech Network website.

The purpose of sharing these recordings is to:

  • educate prospective clients,

  • demonstrate the potential outcomes of transgender voice therapy,

  • provide reassurance and encouragement to people considering therapy.

What information will be shared?

Your recording will be published without your name or other personal identifying information.

We will not publish:

  • your name,

  • photographs,

  • contact details,

  • location,

  • or any other information that could identify you.

However, please be aware that a person's voice can sometimes be recognised by people who know them. Therefore, complete anonymity cannot be guaranteed.

Editing of recordings

The Speech Network may select and edit the agreed sentence from your pre-therapy and post-therapy recordings for presentation purposes.

Editing will be limited to selecting the relevant sentence and presenting the recordings clearly. The recording will not be altered in a way that intentionally misrepresents your voice or the outcome of therapy.

Is participation voluntary?

Yes.

Choosing to share your recording:

  • is completely optional,

  • will not affect your therapy,

  • will not affect your relationship with The Speech Network,

  • and you can choose not to participate.

Can I withdraw my consent?

You can withdraw your consent at any time before your recording is published.

If your recording has already been published and you later withdraw consent, The Speech Network will remove the recording from platforms under our control as soon as reasonably practicable.

Please be aware that once something has been published online, copies may have been downloaded, shared or stored by third parties, and these cannot always be recalled.

Data protection

Your recording is personal data and will be handled in accordance with UK data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Recordings will be stored securely and only accessed by authorised members of The Speech Network.
